About

Have you ever looked at the top of the Superdome or the high rise and asked yourself, "Who built that?" It was the ironworkers. While attending the program you will also be enrolled in the Delgado Community College at no cost! There are many benefits to be gained through the Ironworkers Apprenticeship Program:

  1. An opportunity to learn a trade in the most respected craft of the building and construction trades.
  2. An opportunity to become a union member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Ironworkers.
  3. The opportunity to “earn” journeyperson status, which is recognized throughout the United States and Canada. This journeyman status is security for you and your family for life.
  4. The advantage of fair and reasonable wages and fringe benefits such as health and welfare, pension, annuity, and vacation plans.

The Ironworker's Apprenticeship training facility incorporates apprentice training with journeyman upgrade, meaning, a journeyman is welcome to attend any of the training classes to upgrade his or her skills, at no cost to the member. Some of the classes include WELDING, BURNING, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, SUBPART R, FIRST AID, CPR, HEAVY RIGGING, and many other classes.

Our training facility is one of three AWS-certified welding test facilities in the state. We received our certification in 1997. This welding program is in partnership with the American Welding Society and provides an unparalleled standard of excellence. The instructors teach welding techniques for STICK, MIG, and TIG welding of various metals. Our welding certifications are recognized from coast to coast, keeping the welding certification with the welder, not the company.
