Opticians are in high demand in the job market, and the need for eye care professionals is constantly expanding. In this course, you'll gain the skills and knowledge you need to obtain an entry-level job as an optician. In addition, you'll prepare for the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification, which is required by many states and is a stepping-stone to career advancement.

Opticians, Dispensing
Design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for client according to written optical prescription or specification. Assist client with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses. Assist client with selecting frames. Measure customer for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription. Prepare work order for optical laboratory containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames. Verify exactness of finished lens spectacles. Adjust frame and lens position to fit client. May shape or reshape frames. Includes contact lens opticians.

Admissions
Delgado Community College is an open admissions institution, as established by the Louisiana Legislature and approved by the Board of Regents and Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
Any person above the age of 16, regardless of prior academic preparation, may be fully admitted to Delgado as long as the following criteria are satisfied:
- The person has completed and submitted an application for admission.
